This week at MOM

This week at MOM Café has been an exciting one. We had a birthday girl visiting all the way from Dubai and her best friend is her horse Aladdin and so we were commissioned to make her an Aladdin horse themed cake to celebrate her special day here with her family her in Paarl. We offer a custom make service for any occasion- just get in touch with us and let us make your baking dreams a reality.

Birthday’s Galore!

One of our younger customers, Vivian enjoyed her 12th birthday party together with a group of her friends and our Pastry Chef Pierre in the bakery. She invited five friends to come and experience an afternoon experiencing the life of being “a pastry chef”. They were shown how to decorate a cake from scratch. Chef Pierre showed them how to pipe her name on and to put some flower detail on. They then also each enjoyed a cupcake decorating their own cupcake before enjoying these sweet treats including one of the MOM deluxe milkshakes from of menu.

Chatting to our Regulars

This week we had a chat to Antoinette Kramer, affectionately known as “Ma Kramer”. Ma is a teacher in consumer studies at the local La Rochells High School. Our connection to Ma is even closer than it seems- her daughter Anja also graduated from our campus.

Ma tells us that she has been a MOM regular from day 1, and her favorite items on the menu are our Osso Buco & Cous-cous as well as our delicious Apple Crumble from the display counter. She tells us that a favorite MOM anecdote of her’s is that when she and her family went on holiday, they stacked their freezer with MOM frozen meals for the pet sitter to enjoy during her stay. We asked Ma what keeps her coming back to MOM Cafe, and this is what she had to say: ’Apart from the quality products, value for money, it is the warm, friendly atmosphere that draws me to go and visit as often as I can. I love seeing the students in action. MOM is an extension of my daily activity at school and as a consumer studies teacher I can always learn from them!

Here comes the bride

As you may know, we are happy to host any of your events here at MOM, and we love to be involved. We feel
like family in our community, and it warms our heart to be involved in the special moments of your lives. Last
week we hosted a beautiful kitchen tea, where a family came together to celebrate a sparkling bride. The 20
guests enjoyed a selection of our delicious handmade quiches and a fresh garden salad. They ended their
morning with a variety of Mini Sweet Treats and glasses of sparkling wine. We wish the happy couple all the
best as they embark on this marvelous journey, and thank you for letting us be a part of your special moment!

What’s happening in our kitchen?

We were excited to bring you this weeks lunch options preparing seasonal salads each day of the week for our
hungry lunch patrons. Our Classic Nicoise Salad with tuna, boiled potatoes, olives, tomatoes and crunchy
green beans was a big hit- we love to keep our food simple and traditional. We are especially proud of this
Wednesdays crispy Eisbein with creamed cabbage, mashed potatoes and veggies which our customers
couldn’t get enough of.

Another item that is always on our favorite and that the customers scramble to come and fetch is our Mos
Bolletjies Bread fresh out of the oven. One of our 2nd year students, Natalia provided this week’s batch.
