Deals of the Day

Here at MOM we love our deals of the day. What that means is that every day we’ll put together a combo offer so you can enjoy the food you love without any stress on the wallet! Today we offered a handcrafted freshly baked croissant served with a cappuccino for only R32. We also often offer a combo deal of the day with our lunch items. Last week our Steak and Potatoes and Creme Brulee for R90 was especially popular.

Events at Hurst

With the spirit on interschool’s lurking in the neighbourhood, the Mom Café was the venue of choice for the Paarl Gymnasium Netball team who enjoyed an afternoon of eating our famous toasted sandwiches and delicious cupcakes. We also hosted a group of 30 Paarl Girls High Ladies who joined us for breakfast and had so much fun at our venue that they are ready to book their table for their reunion in 2020!

Tips from our kitchen

This week we’re going to have a quick chat about baking. A lot of people find that while they’re a whiz with savoury food, their bakes leave a lot to be desired. For this we go back to the age old adage- “cooking is an art, and baking is a science”. Cooking is ultimately very forgiving- an extra teaspoon of this, a slighty faulty oven will still often produce a delicious meal (and sometimes your small mistakes end up resulting in an even better dish). Baking is not the same unfortunately. If you want your cakes and cookies to improve, we recommend following the recipe to the T. Simple advice, but it will make a world of difference. Happy baking!

What’s in our freezer?

Have you had a look in our freezer recently? It’s stocked full with meals that you can take home and enjoy. We call it our ‘on the go’ freezer, because it enables you to have a delicious home cooked meal without the cooking, in the comfort of your own home. Last week we had a variety of seasonal soups on offer. Winter seems to be hanging on this year! Why not take home a container of our bacon and cauliflower soup- it is sure to warm your stomach on a colds winters night. We also have breakfast foods to go in our fridge. Our personal favorite is our yoghurt and berry compotes. They‘ll provide the perfect balancing acts to one of our flaky and indulgent croissants!

What’s happening in our kitchen?

This week our students are hard at work learning how to make pasta. Homemade pasta is a lot of effort, one that certainly isn’t worth it with a busy schedule (and cheap dried pasta available in stores). Come in to MOM’s this week to try some of our homemade pasta dishes. All the delicious flavor with none of the hard work. Sounds perfect to us!

Showcasing our Kids

Last week we were lucky enough to have the Power Girls in our kitchen. They introduced us to their recipe for KIDZ Cottage Pie. Come by this Friday to recieve a lunch time taster of their delicious cottage pie. We will also be offering their cottage pie in our freezer as one of our take home meals. Our freezer meals are always available and are the perfect solution to dinner at the end of a busy day.
